We’re Talking Balls…
For a few weeks every summer, it’s London’s excuse to dress the streets, windows and retail displays in wacky arrangements of giant hanging or piled up tennis balls (the more inventive display the better) and jump into the spirit of all things Wimbledon. Eating and drinking events pop up everywhere all with theme inspired menu’s to join in the celebration. I love that the oldest tennis tournament is here, right on the doorstep and everyone wants to be a part of it.
When the sun is shining (and hasn’t it been beautiful) it’s a great reason to get out and about exploring what London has to offer. My favourite things to look out for are the Wimbledon inspired Afternoon Teas. I’m trying to convince The Goodfellows that trying every single one should be part of my market research, but I’ve not convinced them yet. Sweet treat specialities this year include Wimbledon Tennis Sponge and Passion-fruit and Apricot Grand Slam patisseries at The Dorchester, or a yuzu and bergamot tennis ball (literally) dessert at The Sanderson, as pictured below on one of our Guimards plates.
I’ve never actually been to watch, but I’m hoping to try my luck this year. If you’ve ever managed to get in without booking a ticket, then you must have joined the talked about lengthy queue. In true British style, early risers or late night campers form an orderly queue and try their luck at getting one of the few tickets that are held back for walk in’s.
A great excuse to put some Wimbledon colour inspired looks together, here’s some mini mock up’s. Bright, fresh and funky – a perfect base for Wimbledon creations or general Summer set up’s.
It’s all about fresh whites and greens in a clean and slick afternoon tea set up. Bold, colourful tones of summer for small plate sharing food concepts.
Check out the bottom left pic – I love the shadow this plate makes! Playful set up in soft whites and bright blues.
