Hello, I’m Katie, the newest member to join the Goodfellows showroom team. I thought I would take over the Goodfellows blog and use this opportunity to introduce myself and for you to get to know me a little bit better!
I’ll start with where my Goodfellows journey began…The first time I stepped foot in the showroom was for my interview and to be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. Initially I thought the showroom would be on the ground floor and visible from the street, so walking up the stairs provided an air of mystery and exclusivity. When the showroom was revealed I was simply stunned! The amount of plates and various shapes and styles on display was absolutely amazing, I had no idea there was so much choice!
I have been here a few months now and I feel like I’m settling in nicely. At first, I was very overwhelmed by the sheer volume of brands and information I was expected to recall, but the team at the showroom couldn’t have been more welcoming and are always there to answer questions, regardless of how stupid they are! The showroom, although generally speaking is appointments only, is a very relaxed working environment, which has definitely helped me settle in.
I am really enjoying the role so far! It was really exciting being a part of Great British Menu. Meeting the chefs in the flesh who I’ve watched on TV has been a real ‘pinch me’ moment! It’s also amazing how much work and effort goes into their food and presentation and we love being a part of that.
Another stand out moment was having the producers of James Martin’s Saturday Morning in the showroom, which was so exciting for me! As a passionate cook myself, I’ve used his recipe books for years, so I felt very honoured to be able to tell friends and family that I was able to be a part of the plates selected for the show! I also recently visited our brand Figgjo in Norway. Visiting their factory and see how they do things was such an amazing experience.
As I mentioned earlier, there is so much choice at the showroom, but I have to admit I do have a soft spot for one brand in particular. I absolutely LOVE Charlie Martens! Like love him so much I wouldn’t eat off his plates because they are so pretty! I especially love the organic feel and how experimental he is with his glazes. Next time you are in the showroom, please ask me about Charlie Martens, I could talk about his designs all day!
I am loving my time in the showroom, I hope to bring my infectious energy and add a different dynamic to the team from my interiors background. I also hope to introduce Goodfellows within the interior design projects! Having now launched Goodfellows at Home (our sister website for home cooks and foodies) I think now is a great time to start using my contacts and getting involved in high-end residential projects.
Before the world of Goodfellows I graduated from UCA (University for the Creative Arts) last May with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture & Interior Design. I worked for a high-end residential company for 2 years whilst I was studying. I also worked as a barmaid, so I can pour the perfect pint (always a useful skill to know)! Just before I started here, I travelled South America for 5 months, which was amazing and definitely something that should be on everyone’s bucket lists!
I have always loved cooking, which is why I was so drawn to this role as it combines two of my loves – food and design! My end goal is to progress to a creative director within restaurant/hotel design.
Something you should know about me before we meet, I’m very clumsy and heavy handed – I’m yet to smash something but I bash things EVERYDAY! Because of this, I have ended up with the nicknames Bashful or Calamity Kate!
If you would like to come and see me at the showroom then please get in touch. You can book an appointment here!
